The word cornstarch is only the starting point
Cornstarch food packaging may refer to containers, bags, films or cutlery made from different starch-based blends. The front-of-pack label does not reveal the full formula, heat range or disposal conditions.
Identify the product format and blend
A cold-food container, carrier bag and takeaway spoon face different stresses. Ask the supplier for the material composition, intended application and temperature guidance for the exact stock item.
Test heat, oil and rigidity
Use the real meal and expected holding time. Check for warping, softening, leakage, surface changes, odour and weak lids or utensils.
Verify the environmental wording
Ask what standard or evidence supports compostable or biodegradable claims and what collection and processing conditions are required.
